Block Paving Calculator
How many block paving bricks do I need?
Standard UK block paving uses 200 by 100 mm blocks, which works out at 50 blocks per square metre. Enter your driveway or path length and width and the calculator multiplies by 50 and adds 5% for cuts. A herringbone pattern needs more cutting at the edges than a stretcher bond, so lean towards ordering the full margin.
You will also need a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base and a sharp sand bedding layer underneath, plus kiln dried sand to brush into the joints at the end. Work those out with the MOT Type 1 and sharp sand calculators.
Frequently asked questions
Is the block paving calculator free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser.
How accurate is it?
It gives a reliable estimate for ordering based on standard UK figures, but real quantities vary with ground conditions, wastage and how materials settle. Always add a margin and confirm with your supplier before buying.
