Brick Calculator
How many bricks do I need?
A standard UK brick with a 10 mm mortar joint works out at 60 bricks per square metre for a single skin (half brick) wall. Enter the wall's length and height and the calculator multiplies by 60 and adds 5% for cuts and breakages. For a double skin (one brick) wall, double the result.
Measure the wall face area and deduct any large openings. You will also need mortar: as a rough guide, allow about one 25 kg bag of cement and the matching soft sand for every 50 to 60 bricks, mixed around 1:4 to 1:5. Buy all the bricks in one batch so the colour is consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Is the bricks calculator free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser.
How accurate is it?
It gives a reliable estimate for ordering based on standard UK figures, but real quantities vary with ground conditions, wastage and how materials settle. Always add a margin and confirm with your supplier before buying.
